Phycox® Line of Products for Dogs
As a large number of pets are now living longer due to advances in veterinary medicine and better overall caretaker knowledge and attention, arthritis can be a major issue that develops in geriatric canines. Whether it is in the form of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or arthritis associated with Lyme disease or after injury, joint discomfort due to arthritis is increasingly more commonly diagnosed as the lifespan of dogs increases. In addition to drug therapy, joint supplements are a popular treatment option. There are many, many canine joint supplements available on the veterinary market today, all including the clinically proven joint health ingredients glucosamine and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). So what makes Phycox products different, and why should a veterinarian choose to prescribe our products rather than these other joint supplements for their patients?
In addition to glucosamine and MSM, all Phycox products contain our patented* ingredient Phycox, a natural source of phycocyanin. Phycocyanin is an extract from blue-green algae and is a revolutionary new product that assists in both obtaining and maintaining good joint health. So what does the ingredient Phycox contain that makes it so effective and beneficial for joint discomfort? Uniquely, Phycox is both an anti-oxidant and also a potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), making it a powerful anti-inflammatory. Phycox therefore dramatically reduces inflammation, a major cause of joint discomfort.
Unlike non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Phycox is a completely selective COX-2 inhibitor and therefore causes none of the side effects commonly associated with NSAID administration. These side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gastrointestinal ulceration, kidney and liver damage and reduced blood clotting, and can be potentially fatal.
In addition to glucosamine, MSM and Phycox itself, Phycox canine products contain our proprietary blend of citrus bioflavonoids, calcium phosphate, manganese sulfate, ascorbic acid, zinc sulfate, alpha lipoic acid and grape seed extract, providing further anti-oxidant potential and also providing the crucial minerals necessary for good bone and cartilage health. Phycox canine products also contain selenium, turmeric, creatine monohydrate, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which provide even further anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that all combine to complete this highly effective joint health supplement. As a caring professional, why would you settle for anything less for your patients?
Each Phycox canine product has been extensively tested for efficacy, and all have been clinically proven to result in improved mobility, activity level, alertness and ability to rise, as well as increased playfulness and reduced pain score. The vast majority of dogs experience these benefits within a month of starting Phycox treatment.
The safety of Phycox canine products has also been established through scientific testing. A study of 69 dogs, given up to 16 times the recommended dose, found that there were no adverse side effects or reactions to Phycox in any of the animals tested. These dogs were extensively monitored throughout the study, including measurement of body weight and feed consumption, together with daily observation and physical examination. This study shows that Phycox is a safe and well-tolerated product that can be readily prescribed to patients.
Before its anti-inflammatory effects became known, and before Phycox patented its unique product, phycocyanin was used extensively in many industries as a coloring agent, for example to color alcoholic drinks, desserts and cosmetics. Use of phycocyanin in these settings proved that it is a non-toxic and non-carcinogenic agent that can be safely used internally.
Many dogs that could benefit from Phycox will already be receiving anti-inflammatory drugs, most commonly NSAIDs. However, these drugs often do not completely relieve arthritis and other joint pain, making the addition of another safe and effective anti-inflammatory highly desirable. The effects of Phycox have been scientifically studied in dogs receiving NSAIDs, and there are no known drug interactions. All Phycox canine products can therefore be safely prescribed for dogs that are receiving NSAID therapy, to provide further anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity, and improve the quality of life of these dogs.
As with all our Phycox products, all of our canine supplements are very easy for caregivers to administer to dogs of all sizes. The most cost-effective way to give a dog the benefits of Phycox is to use Phycox Canine Granules, which are palatable granules that can simply be added to the dog's food. However if owners prefer, they can use Phycox Soft Chews or Small Bites to give their dogs Phycox as an enjoyable treat. These Phycox chews have all the same benefits as Phycox Canine Granules and are available in different sizes for small and larger dogs: Small Bites for smaller dogs (5-30 pounds) and Soft Chews for large dogs (over 30 pounds). This ensures that all dogs receive an appropriate and effective dose of glucosamine, MSM and of course our patented* Phycox ingredient.
Phycox also caters to dogs diagnosed with food allergies. For dogs in which allergies are a concern, Phycox HA Soft Chews Hypoallergenic can be used. These tasty treats contain no grains or mammalian protein, making them both safe and effective for dogs with food allergies.
All Phycox products are guaranteed to be palatable and enjoyable for dogs. If for any reason, any Phycox product is returned to your clinic, we will replace it unconditionally. That's how sure we are that you, your clients and most importantly, your patients, will all be completely satisfied by Phycox products.
